Wolves in the Pool
Sometimes I get caught up in the imagery of a dream and can’t resist its draw. Here’s an example.
The Dream:
I looked through my sliding glass door into my backyard. My above ground pool had no water in it. Instead, there was a pile of about five to seven dead wolves laying on the bottom. I wondered how they got there. I went outside and picked up one of the wolves and laid him on the grass. I inspected his body to look for blood or a wound that would indicate how he died. All of a sudden he awoke and went to attack me. He was very weak and slow. He had a kindness in his eyes. He was not attacking me out of anger but pride. I did not run but merrily reached out my hand and gently closed his mouth. He immediately fell back asleep. When I let go he stood up and tried to attack me again. I closed his muzzle and he fell back asleep. This process repeated itself several times and I woke up.
This is a great dream. Anytime you find yourself looking through a window or a glass door into the backyard it means you are being shown something in the past. Since the dreamer made note that they were looking through their sliding glass door into their back yard it means the dream is showing the dreamer something about their past. I love the fact that the dreamer looks through the glass door then goes into the back yard. The dreamer is active here and is being shown something they can do something about. On top of that, I really like the fact that the surface is larger on the glass door than a window. This signifies the dreamer has the ability to see a lot more.
The above ground swimming pool adds an interesting aspect to this dream because it indicates an issue that’s visible, or above the surface. (If the swimming pool would have been set into the ground it would indicate the dream is showing the dreamer an issue below the surface.) The fact that there are dead wolves at the bottom of a waterless swimming pool is indicative of the fact that there is no life in the pool. (water is a major source of life). There’s also the idea that a swimming pool full of water is refreshing.
There’s also something else. The danger of a wolf is in its mouth. The dreamer touches the wolf’s mouth and it sedates the wolf, indicating that the dreamer has a kind of authority over the power of the wolf he took rescued from the bottom of the pool. This kinda reminds me of this aspect of human nature I struggle with — rescuing what’s been put to death.
Another interesting thing about the rescued wolf that comes back to life is that it has kindness in its eyes. The dreamer notes that the wolf is weak and slow and is not attacking out of anger, rather pride. This is what the dreamer is rescuing from the dead. A certain amount of pride has been put to death in their life yet they rescue it and keep dealing with it. It’s good that the dreamer demonstrates authority over this prideful aspect, but it’s better to leave it at the bottom of the pool.
So then, what does this dream mean? It’s simple really.
The dreamer is being shown that they have conquered certain things in their past but they keep rescuing pride. It tries to attack, but they have authority over its power. This is a good dream because the dreamer is being shown they are doing this. Because of the dream’s setting and the prominence of the glass door at the beginning of the dream, there’s a good chance the dreamer doesn’t realize they’re even doing this.
