Unique Dream Perspective

Unique Dream Perspective

I recently learned such a unique way to think about a period of twenty four hours that it had me returning to  it again and again. What I learned is that in the ancient Hebraic mindset the day begins at sundown.

At first, I had a hard time wrapping my head around this idea that seems to fly in the face of normality. Then, something occurred to me.  When your day begins at sundown, then your dream life suddenly gets repositioned to the beginning of your day.  This doesn’t seem to matter much unless you adopt another aspect of the ancient mindset — the idea that when a person dreams they receive what could most accurately be described as divine encounters.

You see, in the ancient world when rulers and kings faced a dilemma they couldn’t figure out they expected to be spoken to by the gods and receive answers.  This is why in ancient Egypt, for example, the Pharaoh surrounded himself with magicians and astrologers.  There are even accounts of the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, threatening death and destruction of homes if the astrologers and the magicians of his court could not both tell him his dream and then interpret it.

They could not.  But this guy he named Belteshazzar was ale to do the impossible. That’s another story for another day.

So, as I was thinking about what it meant to have dreams at the beginning of the day,it seemed to me that its the perfect time.  You’re learning as you follow these blog posts that there is value in honoring dreams and recording them just after you awake. But sometimes I think it’s hard to connect what happens to us in our dream life with the day we are rising up to address.

I realized something about myself that I’ve not known before. I’ve adopted this mindset that when I wake up its a brand new day and whatever happened before I open my eyes belonged in yesterday. Therefore I could easily forget what happened while I slept. Any dream I had did not impact whatever I was about to do after I left the house because, even though a dream might have been fresh in my mind it seemed like old news for some reason. The dreams I had last night have escaped me by the time I’m writing this, but I am beginning to realize something. If I close my eyes and take a few minutes to make a diligent search of what I dreamed I have this renewed expectation that whatever I discover can help me in the things I’m facing today.

Have you ever considered the possibility that your day begins at sundown?
