What Does it Mean to Dream About Money

Spread the love

A friend told me a dream about finding money the other day. He told me it was a sign that he was going to get a better job. His statement made me ask, How many dreamers out there think they are about to find literal money when they have a similar dream. So what does it mean to dream about money?

Though it’s tempting to take money dreams literally, (who can’t use an unexpected windfall), almost always the symbol of money in your dreams does not mean literal currency. Finding money in a dream tends to mean something much more valuable. What’s more valuable than money? Favor. Wisdom. Things that can’t be bought with money.

One of the first dreams I had the opportunity to interpret was told to me by a friend. Here’s the dream:

I walked into my grandmothers house. It was empty of furniture and people. I saw a lightbulb in the ceiling of the main floor. I stopped to look at it and noticed there was an envelope stuck up at the base of the lightbulb. I reached up and took a look at it and wondered what an envelope was doing in such a curious place. I grabbed it. I opened it. The envelope was filled with money.

End of dream

This dream may seem simple on the surface, but it’s filled with meaning. This is a great dream to have if you want to practice interpretation. It’s only got one person, one place and one situation. In fact, if you know the basic principles of dream interpretation it’s hard to get this one wrong.

Let’s break the dream down to it’s basic elements.

First, let’s consider the dreamer. They are the only one in the dream so the dream is about them. It’s rather obvious because the only other choices are : the dream’s about the house, the light bulb, or the envelope with the money. The dream might be about the grandmother, you may be thinking? Well, the central focus of the dream pretty much has to appear in the dream for the dream to be about that person or thing. I’m sure there are exceptions, but this is not one of them.

Second, let’s consider the house, the lightbulb and the envelope. All these symbols are necessary in order to understand the meaning of the dream. Although this dream could be set anywhere, the dream is set in the dreamer’s grandmother’s house. The reason for this is understood once we discover what the meaning of the light and money envelope is.

I’ve already eluded to the meaning of the money symbol in the first paragraph. The money doesn’t mean literal cash money, but it does represent something valuable. But what exactly? Let’s hold that thought for a moment and consider the meaning of the lightbulb. To figure out this symbol we’ve got to consider what the most basic purpose of that symbol . The mostt basic meaning of a lightbulb without a covering is light. So we have something valuable found in light. Still, there’s a couple things missing. First, the position of the light to the dreamer is very important. It is above them. So is the envelope. Second, the dreamer had this dream a second time the next night and heard a disembodies voice tell him the interpretation.

The dreamer heard the voice say “Dreams come from the light above and are of great value.”

Phenomenal!

When I head this dream I was jealous because I never heard a voice tell me the interpretation of any of my dreams. In fact, when I heard this dream and the interpretation I hadn’t ever considered the possibility. The cool thing about having an experience like that is that you can know for a fact the interpretation is correct. There’s a resonance deep inside the dreamer that often accompanies an accurate interpretation.

So what it all comes down to is the dreamer is being told where dreams come from and that they are very valuable. If they are valuable then it stands to reason they shouldn’t be ignored or thought of anything less than valuable treasure.

Besides representing the value of dreams, there are lots of other things money can represent in a dream. One specific dream I remember hearing about is one where a dreamer found money in the kitchen trash. She rescued the money from the stinky trash and wondered why someone would throw away something so valuable. Turns out that this dreamer was dreaming about a couple of innate gifts that she’d not been using for a long time. The dream was telling her something she knew all along: your gifts need to be developed because they are valuable. Why would you not use them and throw them away?

Still, something else to consider when you awake early in the morning and are given the choice to record your dream or go back to sleep.
