Head of the Snake

Head of the Snake

Spread the love

You may already know that snakes in dreams typically mean lies from my other blog What Does A Snake Dream Mean?  However, I met with a dreamer who had a most interesting snake dream in which the snake talked to her! So what does a talking snake in a dream mean? Does the meaning change simply because the snake talks? Or does it still mean a lie?

To find the answers to those questions, let’s take a look at the dream.

Snake Bite!

In the dream, the dreamer is on the opposite side of a room from a rattlesnake’s head.  The snake said “I’m going to bite you!” then  swiftly rolled across the floor.  She swatted it away and it came rolling back at her. This happened several times. Everything fades to black and the dreamer lifts up her pant leg to discover five snake bites. One bite was really fresh, two were only hours old, and the other two looked a day or two old.

This strangely fascinating dream put the dreamer in the same room with a talking snake’s head.  There’s no snake body, there’s just a head. One of the most important things you can do to extract meaning out of any dream is to pay attention to what’s out of the ordinary.  So what’s out as out of the ordinary in this dream?  A talking snake head, of course.  Everyone knows the way to kill a snake is to cut off its head. But what does it mean when the snake’s head is cut off and it doesn’t die? It means the most dangerous part of the snake lives and can bite.

Head of Snake Interpretation

The interpretation of this dream is that the dreamer’s dealing with something she thought was dead. It’s not only alive but it appears to bite her and is seemingly able to inject its venom into her three different times. There’s a bit that’s very fresh — now, two bites that were only a couple hours old — recent, and two others that looked a day or two old — from the past. There are lies from the recent past that are affecting her present situations.

The bodies of snakes look like really long tails and for that reason dream snakes often represent lies. The fact that the body of the snake is missing in this dream doesn’t change the meaning. When the snake says to her “I’m gonna bite you!” it rolls its head across the floor and fails to bite her. It’s in essence lying to her.

Isn’t it interesting then, that the dreamer finds a fresh bite mark on her leg. It’s insinuated that the disembodied snake’s head did it. But the dreamer doesn’t see it happen. The dream fades to black. The lifting of her pant leg and the discovery of the bite marks on her leg happen in a different scene. This only means what happens is the individual scenes are related to each other.  The snake’s head didn’t bite the dreamer or she would have felt it.

What A Snake Bite On The Leg Means

When looking for meaning in a dream it’s imperative that you ask the question, Why this and not that? In the context of this dream it means why were the snake bits on the dreamer’s leg and not on her arm or some other place on her body? This is a dream, after all.

The answer lies in the function of the leg. Legs help a person to walk, so then, a snake bite on the leg will affect the dreamer’s walk. The dreamer is being shown there is a lie, or series of lies, from their past that is affecting their walk in life.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line to this dream is this: the dreamer tried to incapacitate an enemy, but it still tries to intimidate her by telling her its plans. This is why it’s so important to identify truth within  your dreams. That way the weapons of your enemy can be diffused. It also allows you to be wise about the tactics of your emery. One of the best ways to do that is to seek out the interpretation of a dream.
