Terrified by the Faceless in Dreams, Here’s the Meaning

Spread the love

Encountering the faceless in a dream can be one of the most terrifying dream experiences you can have. Especially if you’re the one without a face! You’re here because you’ve encountered a faceless person in a dream and you’re looking for answers. I’ve coached hundreds of dreamers in their search for the meaning of the faceless, and I’ll reveal those invaluable insights to you in this blog.

Meeting the faceless means you’ve seen someone who’s concealing or struggling with their identity. However, context determines the meaning of this symbol. A faceless man wearing a dark suit and fedora most often symbolizes a demonic entity. A light being with its face obscured most often symbolizes an angel or another powerful spiritual being.

These are the basic meanings of the faceless in dreams, but by no means are these the only meanings. Won’t you come with me on a detailed deep dive of the meaning of the faceless in dreams?

People in Dreams Meaning

Your face represents more than just how you look, it’s how people identify you from others. Sure, others can get the idea you are you from the style of your hair, or the way you carry yourself, but you seem to catch yourself walking round them to make sure by looking at their face.

People in dreams don’t always represent their literal selves, tho. People can represent themselves, the meaning of their name, the position they hold in life, what they’re known for such as a talent or specialized gift, their passion, their career, or many other things. You can most often tell what a person in your dream means by the context of the dream.

Faceless in Dreams Meaning

Facelessness carries the idea of the lack of identity. The faceless person isn’t acting consistent with their normal behavior, or they exhibit some insecurity about who they are. If this doesn’t yield a meaning that makes sense within the dream’s context, there are other meanings to explore.

One of those meanings is the metaphorical representation of the person’s name. Once you discover the metaphor in your dream, you can then apply the faceless aspect to that metaphorical meaning in order to understand the lack of identity. For example, if you interact with a faceless man named Andy in a dream and he’s fearful of the smallest of things, the meaning could be the loss of the identity of bravery. In other words, he’s acting cowardly. There are too many examples of this sort of thing to list here, so I encourage you to practice. I find Google to be fairly accurate in the definition of names. If you search for the meaning of the name Andy, for example, it will return the answer “brave”. A faceless Andy equals the loss of identity of bravery.

Another meaning is identity theft. This could mean someone else is pretending to be them for financial gain, or another form of their identity. They could have had their spiritual identity stolen and now they don’t know who they are as that spiritual person. Someone could have stolen their emotional identity stolen, family identity stolen, or any number of of personal aspects that have been taken from them.

When You are the Faceless in Dreams

A lot of dreamers are the faceless one in their dreams. The dreamers frequently find themselves looking at a faceless reflection of themselves in a mirror. Although the meaning of this varies, the one thing they all have in common is the lack of identity. Here’s an example.

The Dream

I had this dream where I thought I saw an angel (bright light and ringing in ears). It happened again except the light was dim enough for me to look straight at it. It was also reflected in a mirror. So as I moved to the mirror, I was trying to make out my face. Turns out I had no facial features (just a blank slate) and I started freaking out. It was hard for me to move and I tried to wake myself up until I finally opened my eyes and wake up.

End of dream

The dreamer is having an experience with a light being they call an angel. They see a bright light and had ringing in their ears. This is an interesting point. Both the dreamer’s eyesight and hearing are affected by the “angel”. The next time the light was dimmer and they could look straight at it. So this light beinl has the ability to crank up the light to obscure its identity and dim it down wo the dreamer’s attention was drawn to the mirror where they see themselves with no facial features.

Did you catch what’s happening here?

In the presence of a dimming entity the dreamer loses their identity. It’s not strange that dreamer’s reflection they’re reflection acting strangely in a mirror. When the dreamer is by themselves it means they don’t know who they are. When this dreamer is with the entity it reveals its inferiority by being able to ‘dim down’ this faceless angel causes the dreamer to lose their identity when they’re in its presence.

Faceless ID

Sometimes dreams take the direct approach. Consider this dream.

I am a 22 year old college student. I experienced a dream in which I am going to a bar with my friends. Upon approaching the bar I took out my driver’s license and military ID to show. I handed my ID to the bouncer who was stunned to find my ID had no face. It was frightening, and I recall saying “I need to get a new ID”.

End of Dream

This dream has an obvious meaning — others can’t see her true identity in a formal or official capacity. In other words, she can’t prove who she is to others.

We’re all in a process of self discovery during our college years. The fact that the dreamer says “I need to get a new ID” in the dream attests to this. Although this declaration reveals an obvious meaning to us outsiders, it’s extremely common for dreamers to see their dreams as literal and I’d put money on the possibility the dreamer went and checked the picture on their license when they awoke from the dream. This makes the point I’ve been trying to get across to dreamers for years. When you’re not the one drawing the meaning out of your dream there’s a possibility the meaning of your dream will rise to the surface much faster. Others won’t have the dreamer’s knowledge of needing to get the license renewed but not having time. It’s far too early for the dreamer to attribute what’s going on in the dream to their waking life.

Conduit of Fear

Many times a faceless entity causes a dreamer to fear. Hat Man, Slenderman, or any number of serial killers will impart so much fear to the dreamer that they carry it back into their waking life. The meaning of these faceless men is the conduit of fear. That’s their purpose for showing up in your dream. And just in case you’re thinking that your brain is the one who came up with their images, I’ve observed that the fear in these dreams are so consistently and powerfully crippling that they can originate from non other than a demonic dark entity.

How to Apply Faceless Meaning

Knowing the meaning of the faceless in dreams is all well and good, but how can all of this knowledge help you understand your own dreams?

Begin by looking for obvious places in the dream that refer to identity. If you’re not the one who is faceless, then begin by asking who this person is and who or what could they metaphorically represent in your dream.Refer to the steps I’ve shown you that can help you identify people in dreams, then apply the loss of identity aspect to that meaning.

Sometimes a loss of identity doesn’t apply, move on to the other meanings. If all else fails feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to help you understand your faceless dream.

When I was about 12 I had a dream that I ran into my house because something was chasing me. I ran to my aunt, who lived with at the time due to my mother passing a few years back, and woke up before I thought I was caught by whatever. I woke up in the morning at a friend’s house down the street and ran home to my aunt, who turned and had no face, to which I actually woke up.

I keep having a recurring dream of men in black and white suits that are faceless and they are all marching single file into a hole in the ground. I can’t seem to locate the exact answer. It isn’t dark in the dream but it’s like scary because the rows of faceless ones are endless as they single file jump down in the hole.
Do you have any suggestions? Maybe it’s speaking of the power on the earth leading people blindly ? I’m not sure but now my granddaughter just told me of a similar dream only the hole in her dream wasn’t the ground , it was in the sky! It’d be nice to know thoughts of this one maybe from a different perspective?

Stephanie, I’m no pro but I’ll tell you what I see in that one:

Uniformity, lack of identity and I think the hole would be a bit obvious in a general way.
By marching single file, it appears they are all following eachother..

With no face, it could mean that you notice people loosing who they are/were pre-pandemic or possibly, if you want to go w/ some symbology in this article, they lost their sight, their voice, all of their senses (have no sense?)

I would say some of it could relate to your world view – for example if you buy in 100% to pandemic news, most of the above would not apply but if not, I would simplify it to this one idea… the world is blindly going to hell in a handbasket.. metaphorically of course.
