Dreams and the Night Sky
After writing nearly fifty blogs exploring different aspects of dreams, I’ve begun to notice patterns. There are these dreams with incredible vivid colors, and others that play themselves out in gray scale. Both kinds of dreams can be infused with a strong sense of importance and urgency that, at the very least, compels the dreamer to whisper– “I’ve got to know what this means.”
Some dreams seem to be plain and ordinary but have one or two people in them that makes the dreamer sit up and take notice. Then others consist of fragments that don’t appear to make any sense at all.
All of these factors seem to suggest a pattern. Your dreams may seem like they’re all over the place, but those seemingly unrelated images of people and places and events all fit together to tell a story that is often times much bigger than we are. Take a moment if you will, to remember some significant dreams you’ve had. You may not have known why some of your dreams were significant, but in a place deep inside your gut you sensed their importance. It’s as if those feelings are given to you on purpose. As if something or someone greater than you is trying to get your attention.
If you’ve got a dream or two picked out, you may have noticed there are similar events happening but different people are involved. On the other hand, you may not notice any similarities between people or events between different dreams, but you may notice similar feelings. Emotions are a powerful thing. At times, they can be more memorable than pictures.
Dreams are often moved by strong undercurrents that involve your entire person. So whether your dreams are filled with vibrant colors that seem to go on forever, or chased by feelings that hint there’s more to them than you’re experiencing in the moment, just know that there is more going on here than meets the eye. You’re being caught up and moved to those places for a reason. And it is up to us to pursue the mystery of why.
Take a moment to remember those dreams you’ve picked out when you’re under a sky full of stars. Then, as your eyes begin to find the patterns of different constellations, remember that what seems like random chaos can begin to come together to form beautiful images right before our very eyes if we just take the time to look.
So what do dreams have in common with the night sky? Both occur on a daily basis, but we have to cast our eyes upward and pay attention in order to see meaning in the chaos.
