Dream Twilight
Strange things happen to me when I’m entering Dream Twilight. Ever since I was a kid I would hear voices in that time I was approaching asleep. Sometimes the voices would be having conversations that I couldn’t quite make out was was being said. Other times I would hear a few words here and there as I moved deeper into my dream state.
I’ve always wondered what was happening with all those things I was hearing as I was drifting off to sleep. Was it just my brain sorting through the words I’ve heard throughout that day? Or was there something else going on here? When I first noticed this happening when I was growing up, I didn’t pay much attention to what was being said, to be honest, I let what was being communicated to me go in one ear and out the other.
Now things are much different. I’m paying close attention to what I hear and what I’m being shown in that dream twilight time as I’m falling asleep. Just recently I’m starting to see images apart from the words that I’m hearing. It’s slow progress, but it’s progress none the less.
As I ask others about the dream twilight time they experience as they’re drifting off to sleep, some people tell me that they start dreaming as soon as they fall asleep. Others aren’t sure what is happening in that time because they don’t remember much about their dreams. Then there are others who have very unique twilight experiences such as the woman I recently met who hears lots of different orchestra instruments tuning up. It doesn’t happen with every dream she’s had, but it does happen with the dreams she describes as wondrous experiences. And then there’s the lucid dreamer I met several years ago whose dreams begin with a long hallway with lots of doors on both sides. Each of the doors hold a dream behind it and almost on a nightly basis he walks down that hallway and chooses a door to walk through.
Now that’s a dream gift!
Many people who are gifted in the arena of dreams tend to be artistic in some way. They love to draw, write, create music or express their talent in another creative way. I find this fascinating because the dream world seems to be made from the same fabric of creativity. Things we know in this world, space and time and ability, all are used creatively to communicate things that they could never communicate in our waking lives. Dreams by nature are infused with power and purpose. For this reason alone we all need to take a closer look at the words and images communicated to us beginning with that dream twilight time as we’re drifting off to sleep. Be intentional about remembering what’s happening in the atmosphere your dream is born in. It just may be an expression of your own personal creativity partnering with the extraordinary creativity where nightly dreams are born.
