Dreams About intruders
All of us have different things trying to access our lives in different ways. Sometimes it comes to us in the form of temptation, other times it comes to us in the form of challenges. Whatever the form, others want to gain control of what we have control of, namely, our thoughts and minds. Many times these attacks are so sneaky and covert that we need some help recognizing them. The following dream is a good example of how we can be warned of an impending attack.
I was in my house looking out through the glass doors of my living room. There was a large man outside who wasn’t intimidating at all. He was sweeping up the porch and kind of cleaning up. I think there was a bonfire going in the pit behind him but I wasn’t sure. I went to the door in my sunroom to ask him what the heck he was doing. I didn’t feel threatened at all. then he came up to the door and asked to come in. He was gradually getting more aggressive I slammed the door in his face and ran to my mom. The next thing I know was that he was in the house through an open window. I don’t remember what happened with him after that.
The next few nights there were people trying to get into the house. The only way to keep them out was to make sure that the windows and the blinds were closed. At sunset we had to frantically shut the windows before we saw a person outside. If we didn’t do this in time a person would be in our house asking for something. We had to turn our backs on them until they were gone, which at time took the entire night.
After this I remember walking in the woods with my sister we saw a dead cat in the road, got scared and ran into our cottage. The same thing happened with the people outside and my sister was unconscious laying on the floor by the door and wouldn’t wake up. I went to another room to save myself when I knew my sister wouldn’t wake up.
There’s a lot going on in this dream. But if you look closely you can clearly see there’s a common theme: those who don’t belong inside the house want in. At first, the guy sweeping up outside seems harmless enough. He’s helping out a bit and the dreamer isn’t intimidated or threatened at all. Then, he suddenly gets more aggressive and the dreamer slams the door in his face. He then finds his way into the house through an open window. The dreamer doesn’t remember what happens with the invader after that, but something tells me that it isn’t good.
Then the next few nights the theme of people trying to get into the house carries on. Houses in dreams can represent several things. The specific meaning of the house in this dream all depends on the context. Context can be determined by several factors, one of which is the feeling of the dreamer. All we knew for sure about the dreamer’s feeling in the first part of the dream is that she doesn’t feel threatened or intimidated….at first. This indicates that she is comfortable with the the large man and then her actions tell us these feelings change. What does this mean? It simply means this: Something that doesn’t appear to be a threat becomes a threat. Because the dreamer’s mother is in the house this place has the feel that it represents her life, and seems to have more of that feel from the next what happens next.
The fact that many others are trying to break into her house the next few nights tell us there’s a pattern going on here. I find it interesting that the only way to keep the intruders out of the house was to close the blinds and windows. And if they somehow got in the answer to getting rid of them was for the dreamer to turn her back to them, and then it took a long time before they were gone. There are a couple principles here. First, windows in a house are great, they allow you to see lots of things; until it gets dark. Sunset is the key. When darkness falls everything had to be closed off. Things that show up when its dark (things of darkness) wanted in and to ask for things. We aren’t told what kind of things they asked for, but there’s no doubt they wanted the dreamer’s permission.
Things that show up under the cover of darkness often need our permission to enter our lives. The best way to deal with those things is to turn our backs on them. I cannot emphasize how important this principle is. Many times we’re tricked into allowing things into our lives that have no business being there. So many times, it seems impossible to get rid of those things but there’s power in our choices.
In the last scene death shows up. First there’s a dead cat and then the dreamer’s sister is laying unconscious by the door and wouldn’t wake up. We’re not told specifically that the sister was dead, but it sure looks like it. The dreamer goes into the next room to save herself and knew that her sister wouldn’t wake up. This ending is disheartening, but the truth is the ending of the dream can be changed.
When dreams tell us things it does not necessarily mean that those things are set in stone. The ending of this dream does not have to become reality in the dreamer’s life. If anything, this dream is warning her so that what’s in the dream doesn’t become reality in her waking life. This dream is telling her to beware of something that doesn’t appear to be a threat at first, but sets a precedents for other things to follow and enter her life through little openings. She needs to guard herself against these type of things and don’t allow openings into her life not even small ones to let much bigger things invade her life. This will only result in death. This doesn’t speak of physical death, rather the death of things like innocence, or relationship, or many other things that are protected by a house and family.
We can all learn from this dreamer’s dream. Don’t allow openings in our lives to let dark things in. Don’t let them in!
