AnomalyCon
A few hours ago I finished a long day of talking to people about their dreams at AnomalyCon, Denver’s own Steampunk convention (to find out about Steampunk click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk). This was my first time at a Steampunk event, and let me tell ya, I was intrigued.
With little exception, everyone I talked to at this event last night and today, had unique and different dream experiences. When I go to Comicon and ask people about their dreams I hear A LOT of nightmares. Although I heard a few nightmares today, I heard many dreams that once again convinced me that anything and everything’s possible in this world that unfolds behind closed eyes.
One dreamer described how he quickly figures out he’s dreaming, and from then his dreams take on this atmosphere of a role-playing game. Another dreamer described how she often dreams with her eyes open and the dream unfolds on top of the setting of her bedroom. Still, another dreamer described a classroom setting where everyone was told what would appear in their dreams before they turned off the lights and they all went to sleep. Things appeared in their dreams as the shaman said they would.
After talking to so many Steampunks in the last twenty-four hours, I have gained respect for this community and a renewed interest in seeking out those who choose to express themselves in such creative ways. What can you take away from my experience? I’d say that although we all know everyone dreams whether they remember them or not, not everyone dreams the same way. The person you know in your life who doesn’t seem to fit in, or is a little bit different than everyone else, just may be having the most incredible dream experiences right under your nose. Take some time to get to know them for who they are, you just may discover, as I did, they’re not that different from you after all.
